Purley Festival 2017 was simply awesome!
THANK YOU FROM PURLEY FESTIVAL DIRECTOR
We pulled off the best fringe week and finale weekend yet and I have received lots of lovely feedback and glittering praise from local people and businesses, the performers, and a number of Croydon’s elected representatives who were kind enough to come along and support this year’s event.
I will remember Monday 26th June to Sunday 2nd July 2017 as an incredible week of which I will always be proud. We had an eclectic mix of events across the week that reflected our community’s interests and passions and were all really popular and well attended. The weekend at the Rotary Field was gloriously sunny throughout with happy faces as far as the eye could see. It was beautiful.
Purley Festival has become an important community event that is enjoyed by local people of all ages and backgrounds. That is exactly why we started it. We are local people ourselves and we love bringing great music, arts and entertainment to Purley. We were blessed this year with so many talented musicians, amazing singers, creative artists and entertainers, and fabulous stall holders.
As always a huge thanks must go to our sponsors Hawke Financial Services, Sunrise of Purley, Plan Insurance Brokers, Montpelier Church, Streeter Marshall Solicitors, Frost Estate Agents and the other wonderful businesses and organisations that make the festival possible. Not to mention our friends at Purley Rotary Club for providing our festival stewards; and the local Scouts for lending us their climbing wall and clickers to count people in at the gates.
The festival is all about celebrating Purley and this year we were joined by our local MP, Chris Philp; the Leader of Croydon Council, Tony Newman; and the Mayor of Croydon, Toni Letts OBE. Also in attendance were Councillors Simon Brew, Badsha Quadir, Hamida Ali and Wayne Trakas-Lawlor, plus local TV personality and business owner Laura Hamilton. It is fantastic that so many important local figures came to support music and the arts in our borough.
I couldn’t do any of this without my fellow Directors and team of committed volunteers. I pay tribute to their tireless work, vision and dedication. Together we have created something that we are passionate about and that we truly believe in. There is something really special about that.
Finally, I want to thank local people for their positivity and support. It blows me away that 9,000 people came to enjoy the festival finale and helped to create a wonderful atmosphere full of community spirit. Purley Festival is put on by the community for the community and that will always be the case.
Everybody played their part in our most triumphant festival to date. It’s hard to get the perfect week. But, as our Sunday night headliners The Original Aces would say, you can get it if you really want.
Thank you, Purley. See you next year!
